tiffin middle school-2 hour delay

Today, they had a two hour delay so I observed another’s class who helps students who are falling

behind. There is only four students in the class and they are working on reading today. She is a very

organized and energetic teacher who acts out what she is saying. She told them about inertia and went over

a few laws. She then answered a few questions on a sheet she passed up with the students. She gave

examples of inertia by throwing her marker and had the students point to the paragraph they were reading to

make sure they were following along. She asked the class if they were awake which was greeted by silence

and a shaking head. A student did not have a pencil so she reprimanded him and warned him that it was the

second day and he better have a pencil next time. She clapped her hands to wake them up when the

students were not participating in answering the questions. Though she has a smart board, she prefers the

white board, never using the smart board during the class. A lady then came and took the four students

away for some reason unknown to me. I was surprised and went back to Mrs.Vasko’s class. It was a study

hall and now it is the English class. They shared their summaries and talked about how to make the

summaries better. She uses the smart board by using her computer. She always wears a microphone around

her neck which confuses me. Her class is not big.

tiffin middle school

I started to stay for two hours when I realized that if I did not I would not be able to meet my quota.

My first class, as usual, is the study hall/ library and my second is an English/reading class. The class read

the story about Scrooge and the ghost of Christmas past. They had parts to read and dissected the story

and parts. They talked about the symbols in the story and why Scrooge was the way he was and why along

with why the other characters were that way. I was also present during study hall, which was like it always

is. Some of the children go to the library or another room for reasons unknown to me and the rest quietly

work. I am so surprised at how well they behaved. Whenever I told people I wanted to teach middle

school, they would give me a pity look and say how crazy and unruly the students are at that age. I must

have a good class because they behave like angels. They speak with manners, listen and do not talk. It is a

study hall and they don’t talk! At my high school, we would not be able to shut up we talked so much. The

difference is astonishing. These kids must have been raised right. Even in the reading class, they behave with

manners to a T. They listen, participate and work hard to get good grades. Compared to my old school, this

is starkly different. It is interesting to see the differences between how I was taught and how these kids are

taught.

Reflection

Today I ran errands for Mrs.Vasko. This was no easy task because I only know how to go to the

administration office and her classroom. She asked me to make two copies of papers, each would go into a

different room. One was a three-hole punched, non colored paper and the other a colored copy. Each was

to have twenty-seven copies. The colored copy was to be made in the office and the other somewhere else.

I do not remember now. I also was to deliver a detention paper to the administration office and a envelope

to the office. Lost, I went to the administration office and handed them the envelope before admitting I had

no clue where to go from there. The lady recognized me as the Heidelberg girl and told me to go down the

hall. She said that was where I would find the office. The hall was split into two sections and crossing my

fingers, i went one way, luckily, the right way. The office lady was very nice and helped me make the

copies. She then showed me where the work room was and which mailbox to put it in. Then she guided me

to the three-hole puncher. The administrative lady showed my how to get perfect three-hole punches and I

was very relieved for all their help. As I hole-punched, I listened to the office ladies talk about one of the

workers there who was pregnant and ready to deliver within five days. After I finished hole-punching, I went

back to the classroom, gave the papers to Mrs.Vasko and asked if I could be of any more assistance. She

said no so I went back to my seat, pulled out my laptop and wrote this up.

I was very happy to be of use today. She rarely has me do anything. I was originally going to stop

coming here and help tutor a boy in high school but after contacting his mother once and being told she

would call me back, I couldn’t reach her. I do not know why. My phone makes a weird noise like its busy

or something. She has my number is she wants to contact me but it has been so long without contact I do

not know what to think. Oh, well. I will try to be more open to any task Mrs.Vasko sees fit of me.
